Irena Basque

The Irena Basque is where softness and structure meet.

Botanical embroidery in deep onyx sweeps across the body, but it is the precision underneath that gives the piece its presence. Velvet-covered underwiring shapes the balcony cups, a slim velvet waistband defines the waist, and the embroidery is cut into a high, sculptural line below.

The result is intensely feminine, but never delicate in the conventional sense. There is something architectural about it — scalloped embroidery against clean velvet lines, transparency held inside a very deliberate framework.

The balcony silhouette gives lift and shape, while the scalloped edges soften the line across the bust. From there, the embroidery continues down the torso before opening into the high-cut lower silhouette.

Velvet runs through the construction at the shoulder straps, wire casing and waistband, finishing just above the suspender straps. It gives the embroidery weight and definition, stopping the piece from ever feeling overly ornate.

From behind, seven hook-and-eye fastenings run down the spine, creating a strong vertical line through the otherwise sheer construction. Golden hardware punctuates the black throughout. Every detail feels considered.

It was also one of the pieces we knew we wanted from Irena as soon as we saw the collection. The embroidery is beautiful, but it was the structure that really sold it to us — that combination of an unmistakably romantic fabric with such deliberate, architectural lines.

That is what makes the Irena Basque so compelling: romantic without being soft-focus, dramatic without excess, and beautifully engineered beneath all that embroidery.
