The combination matters: Calais lace is a protected appellation, produced on Leavers looms in France, and Marjolaine is among the houses still building collections around it. The silk comes from mills that know what silk is meant to feel like.

The edit runs the full vocabulary of nightwear. Camisoles and silk shorts. Chemises, babydolls, and slip dresses. Long nightdresses and robes. Kimonos and gowns. Pieces designed for the private hours rather than for view — which, as a category, almost nobody takes seriously anymore.

That is most of what there is to say about it. Marjolaine sits apart from the lingerie side of the site: it is not designed to be seen by anyone you don't live with, and it isn't trying to be. Silk nightwear at this level has become rare, and the houses still doing it properly can be counted on one hand. Marjolaine is one of them. For women who have decided what they want to sleep in, and would prefer it was this.
