Nightwear is a category most women buy on autopilot. The pieces on this page are for the times it's worth thinking about — a long silk chemise, a proper slip dress, a robe cut well enough to answer the door in. Drawn from houses we rate for the work they do at home as much as the work they do under clothes.
Marjolaine anchors the edit. The French house works almost exclusively in silk and French Calais lace, and builds full collections around both — camisoles and silk shorts, chemises, babydolls, slip dresses, long nightdresses, robes, kimonos. Lise Charmel brings its embroidery into loungewear with a lighter register than its lingerie: camisole and short sets, slips, pieces meant to be worn at home rather than under something else. Simone Pérèle sits between the two, with a cleaner, more architectural take on the category. Maison Close appears for its modal — among the softest we've ever put on skin — in pieces that read closer to second-skin slip dress than traditional nightwear.
The materials do most of the work. Silk that behaves the way silk should. Modal that feels like nothing. Lace that has been made somewhere specific by someone who knows what they're doing. Worn for sleeping, reading, being at home on a Sunday, or the early part of an evening before anyone else arrives. A category for women who have worked out that what they wear when no one is watching matters at least as much as what they wear when they are.
